While the club’s statement doesn’t confirm the extent of the injury or the timetable for recovery, both SPORT and Mundo Deportivo say the Brazilian will be out for five weeks, which isn’t the worst news since there wouldn’t be any games in that period for Neto to play anyway, and he should be fit again after the first international break of the season in early September.
But this does make things a little nervous when it comes to Marc-André ter Stegen, who now has Iñaki Peña as his backup. If Ter Stegen gets injured in one of the games in August, it would be the young Peña who’d have to play until either the German or Neto returns, so let’s hope that scenario doesn’t play out and the third goalkeeper doesn’t have to play under pressure.
Neto’s last match in preseason was last Wednesday’s friendly against Napoli in Miami, and the Brazilian made his mark with a spectacular performance that ensured Barça fans that the backup spot is still in good hands despite the departure of Jasper Cillessen.
Get well soon, Neto!
