Lionel Messi compared the various competitions that Barcelona strive for every year while giving his acceptance speech of the European Golden Shoe. The award is given to the previous year’s top goalscorer among the European leagues.

“Obviously, the UEFA Champions League is something special and every year we want to win it, although we are conscious that La Liga is the most important because it leads you to be in good shape for the Champions and for the Copa del Rey,” the Argentine superstar declared.

Barcelona last won the European competition in 2015. Messi has said it’s his mission to recapture the trophy but he also mentioned the other two big competitions, saying “we never forget La Liga and La Copa because we are Barcelona, and we go for everything.”

Messi has some catching up to do if he wants to retain the Golden Shoe this season, as he has been hampered to a very slow start in the goals department due to a rash of niggling injuries.
