The team have struggled without the midfielder

The hidden message behind all of Barcelona’s defeats in La Liga Santander: the absence of Sergio Busquets. After suffering the third defeat of the campaign this time at the hands of Levante, it is becoming quite clear what is missing on the pitch. Against Athletic Club, Granada and now Levante, Sergio Busquets, the midfielder who dictates the tempo with his excellent reading of the game, was benched. And the common denominator in all of those three games: defeat. Coincidence or not, the Sabadell born player is essential to the team’s style of play. Without Busquets on the field, the team lose control of games. His tactical intelligence is always needed for the club to succeed.

Despite all the ongoing noise from the media constantly criticizing him for his performances this campaign, the truth is that without him, Barca can’t win and the proof is in their defeats. You can’t compete without the brain of the team, just like you can’t get a car to start running without its engine.

Ernesto Valverde will be doing his homework for the upcoming games, and let’s hope he is looking to include Busquets in his plans, because as we’ve seen so far this season: No Busquets, no party.
