Two players are said to interest the Catalans

FC Barcelona are monitoring the situation of two Bayern Munich players who have long been linked with the Catalan club, according to Sport Bild.

The first is Thiago Alcântara, a former Barcelona player who has been tipped for a return to the Camp Nou for years. The other is David Alaba, a left-back known for his ability to play multiple positions, who has been linked often with Barça in the past. Both have contracts running out soon and have to make the decision whether to renew with the Germans or seek a new home in the next transfer window.

Thiago is the “big loser” of the sacking of Niko Kovač and appointment of Hansi Flick, the report says, and he has struggled for playing time. Now, the question is whether he will finish out the season impressing the coach and convincing him to use him more often, or if he will accept the situation and look elsewhere for playing time as soon as possible. A return to La Liga, specifically, is reportedly in the cards. Barcelona could be one clear destination for him next summer.

Bayern are rumored to want to extend Alaba’s contract, and the player himself is said to want to stay in Germany - if his salary is increased. His contract is rumored to be well below the likes of Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer, and there is a suspicion that both Barcelona and Real Madrid would be willing to pay him what he wants.
