The Chilean’s surprising statistics

Arturo Vidal is known primarily for his energy and tackling from midfield, and not for his brilliant goalscoring. But statistics show that he is actually one of the most efficient scorers in La Liga.

When it comes to scoring the most goals in the fewest minutes, it’s not surprising that Barcelona’s star, Lionel Messi, leads the pack. He nets a goal every 83 minutes in La Liga this season.

Ángel Rodríguez of Getafe is second, with a goal every 100 minutes. But in third place, not far behind, is Vidal, with a goal every 105 minutes. Roger Martí of Levante is fourth (every 112’), Luis Suárez of Barcelona is fifth (every 119’), and Karim Benzema of Real Madrid is sixth (every 124’).

In addition, the Chilean is one of the most efficient in terms of goals scored versus amount of shots. He has scored five goals with only eight shots, a remarkable efficiency of 63%. For comparison, Messi has 13 after 46 shots (28%), while Benzema has 12 goals after 71 shots (17%). Even Lucas Pérez of Deportivo Alavés, one of the most efficient goalscorers out there, has 8 after 23 shots (35%).

No one with as many or more goals as Vidal has gotten there nearly as efficiently in terms of shots.
