The club legend is all over the front pages

To the surprise of absolutely no-one Barcelona and Xavi dominate the front pages in Spain after a day of speculation that the midfielder will return to the Camp Nou.

There have been multiple reports that Barca have offered Xavi a contract to replace Ernesto Valverde at the helm after Thursday’s Spanish Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Here’s a look at what the newspapers are making of it all on Saturday:

Mundo Deportivo’s headline is ‘The Xavi Offensive’ and they report on how the pressure has increased on Valverde after defeat in the Super Cup. Eric Abidal then met with Xavi in Doha to talk about taking charge of the club.

AS report that’ Barcelona are looking for their Zidane’. They describe a ‘Crisis at the Camp Nou’ and reckon Valverde is on the brink of the sack with Xavi wanted to come in and replace him.

Sport’s headline is Earthquake Xavi’ and say he’s been sounded out about taking over from Ernesto Valverde. They also report that the club are looking at other options to take over after Josep Maria Bartomeu lost faith in Valverde.

Over at L’Esportiu there’s more Valverde on the front page and talk of how the cycle is over for the 55-year-old coach. They also report on Abidal and Grau’s trip to Qatar to see if Xavi will return to the club.
