Expect controversy at the Santiago Bernabeu

Mateu Lahoz has been confirmed as the match referee for Sunday’s Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu between Real Madrid and Barcelona, while González González will oversee VAR.

Sunday’s match promises to be a pretty key battle with regards to the title race. Barca head to the Spanish capital two points clear of Los Blancos after the weekend’s results.

Both teams are in Champions League action in midweek, Barca at Napoli and Los Blancos at home to Man City, but will renew hostilities at the weekend in La Liga.

Lahoz is one of Spain’s most well-known referees but does tend to be pretty card happy which could make for a controversial Clasico.

Barcelona have already had a bit of controversy with Lahoz this season. He sent off Ousmane Dembele after the Frenchman called him ‘very bad’ in October’s win over Sevilla.
