The captain has been talking about this week’s news

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has given an exclusive interview to Mundo Deportivo which is due to be published on Thursday, but the newspaper have teased a few sections of it today.

Of particular interest is that Messi was asked about the recent allegations surrounding the club and reports they paid a company to discredit players, ex-players and club legends on social media.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu has publicly denied the allegations, while he also reportedly met with the club captains and Quique Setien to offer an explanation.

Messi has been in Dubai this week (he’s an ambassador for Dubai Expo 2020) and explained the whole thing caught him out a little bit:

“The truth caught me a bit of surprise because I wasn’t here and I was traveling,” he said.

“When I arrived I learned a little about everything. The president told us the same thing he made public, the same thing he said at the press conference.

“What was the situation, what had happened and I cannot say much more. Just as they know everything he said, he told the captains in private.

“The truth is that I see it strange that something like this happens. But they also said there would be evidence. We will have to wait to see if it is true or not. We cannot say much and wait to see what happens with all this. I really, it seemed like a strange subject.”
