The manager was happy with the new arrival

Quique Setien said new signing Martin Braithwaite surpassed expectations on his Barcelona debut on Saturday in the club’s 5-0 win over Eibar.

The Denmark international came off the bench in the second half and had a hand in two Barcelona goals as the champions cruised to victory.

Braithwaite’s signing had been criticised by some former players ahead of the match, but Setien is backing the striker to be a big success at the Camp Nou.

“Braithwaite did more than I expected, much more,” he said.

“Honestly, I think we have made an extraordinary signing.

“He will adapt perfectly to what we do, he was involved in two goals today and he understands the game so well.”

Setien will be hoping Braithwaite can continue to make an impact between now and the end of the season and repay the faith the club have shown in him after paying his €18 million release clause.
