Can Quique Setién drill his tactics to Barcelona through video conferences?
The team cannot train as a group
Not only are players taking time off from playing, they are taking time off from training as a group. This means that players are having to keep in shape with exercises from home, and kicking toilet rolls or whatever.
But what about tactical training? Can a team be drilled in tactics through video conference?
Tactical meetings are common in top-level football, but that’s quickly followed up with work on the training pitch.
Quique Setién came to Barcelona in the middle of the season and didn’t have enough time to teach his team to his total satisfaction. The coach frequently said in press conferences that he was still trying to communicate concepts to his players, and they were still learning.
While it is impossible to fully teach without tactical work on the training ground, it is possible that Setién could communicate to his players through video calls. Hopefully, it’s something the club is planning on using. The recovery of Luis Suárez could also be a silver lining for Barcelona’s season. We all hope that Spain’s coronavirus crisis, and indeed those that are unfolding worldwide, improve in the coming weeks and months.
