The Brazilian thinks it’s time for change

Rivaldo reckons this summer is a good time for Barcelona to try and sell Ousmane Dembele and allow the Frenchman the chance to reignite his career elsewhere.

Dembele has been plagued by injuries since joining from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017, and he’s currently sidelined with a torn hamstring that required surgery in February.

The forward’s future is regularly the source of speculation, and Rivaldo thinks the time might be right to offload Dembele.

“Ousmane Dembélé signed for Barcelona almost three years ago and he has already had enough time to establish himself in the club and prove his value. It’s possible that he will never show his quality at the club.

“He is still a player with huge potential, but I think this summer could be the right opportunity for Barcelona to sell or even exchange him for a player they’re chasing already.

“He’s been unlucky with injuries, but he might also have tried to give more at some moments. Things haven’t gone according to expectations and he might be able to revive his career at another club where he will feel more confident to play at his best.”

There have been conflicting rumors about whether Dembele will stay at Barcelona this summer, but the club are likely to find it difficult to find a seller given his injury history.

If Dembele does stay he is likely to face a real challenge securing minutes next season, as Barca are set to strengthen their attack.

Lautaro Martinez is expected to arrive from Inter Milan, while youngsters Francisco Trincao and Pedri have already agreed to join in the summer.
