The players trained individually on Friday

Barcelona returned to training on Friday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper for the first time since La Liga was suspended indefinitely in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The players underwent coronavirus tests on Wednesday which allowed them to finally return to work on Friday. The players arrived in their training kit and underwent individual training sessions spread out across several training pitches to maintain social distancing.

Luis Suarez was back after recovering from knee surgery, while Barca B’s Inaki Pena, Ronald Araujo, Monchu Riqui Puig and Alex Collado also took part.

It is hoped the 2019-20 season can resume in June and be completed. All teams have 11 games left to play and Leganes boss Javier Aguirre has offered a bit of detail on the forthcoming schedule.

“LaLiga will start again on June 20 and we’ll officially finish within five weeks, on July 26. Games will be played Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 11 remaining games. LaLiga have now confirmed that to me officially.”

Barcelona will train again on Saturday morning.
