Could the midfielder return to Sevilla?

Ivan Rakitic’s future continues to make headlines with the midfielder said to be drifting further and further away from Barcelona.

The Croatia international reportedly wants to return to Sevilla, but sporting director Monchi has insisted once again that there is nothing going on with Barcelona.

“Rakitic and Sevilla have absolutely nothing [to do with each other], to be honest. I’ve spoken to Ivan once or twice about his family and he’s asked about mine.

“Now is not the time [for transfers]. Honestly, there’s absolutely nothing at the moment.

“Everything that is going on at Barcelona has nothing to do with Sevilla.”

Meanwhile, Rakitic has been talking about the transfer rumors to Sky in Germany. The 32-year-old said he is used to all the speculation about his future.

He also insisted he is happy at the club and would like to see out his contract that runs until next summer.

“I’ve still got a contract, when I sign a contract I always intend to fulfil it, and if that cannot happen for any reason, then we’ll sit down together and talk about it,” he said.

“But for the moment, I am very happy here and I am thinking about other stuff.”

Barcelona will want to sell Rakitic to avoid him leaving for free next year but financial reasons mean it looks unlikely he’ll end up back at Sevilla.
