The forward is expected back soon

Barcelona offered an update on Lionel Messi on Friday after the captain missed training and worked out in the gym again.

The Catalan giants say the Argentine has picked up a minor problem but they expect him back out on the training pitch next week.

Here’s the statement:

“Barça captain Leo Messi has a minor right quadriceps injury and trained in isolation, doing specific exercises to avoid unnecessary risks with just eight days remaining before Barça finally get back to playing matches. He should be able to rejoin his team-mates in a few days’ time.”

It’s not clear if Messi will miss the trip to Real Mallorca on June 13, but he is expected to be back in full training next week which sounds positive.

Barcelona also confirmed that Ansu Fati “worked out individually” on Friday. The youngster is reportedly struggling a little bit with a knee problem.

The statement also revealed that Quique Setien’s side will train at the Camp Nou on Saturday to help the players prepare for behind closed doors games.
