What next for the Frenchman?

Jean-Clair Todibo will not be signing permanently for Schalke this summer in a €25 million deal, as the Bundesliga side have confirmd their purchase option has just expired.

The Frenchman moved to the Veltins-Arena on loan in January in a bit of a weird deal that allowed Schalke to buy him for €25m and Barca to buy him back for €50m plus €10m in variables.

Yet Schalke’s sporting director, Jochen Schneider, has told WAZ that the purchase option has expired and has not been taken up by the Bundesliga side.

It’s not clear what will happen to Todibo now. Barcelona don’t have too many options in defence, but there have been plenty of rumors he will be sold to raise funds.

There has also been speculation Todibo could be used in swap deals with Inter for Lautaro Martinez or Juventus for Miralem Pjanic.

Todibo hasn’t looked particularly impressive in Schalke’s first two games back since the Bundesliga resumed, but he’s still very young and doesn’t turn 21 until December.

Should Barcelona keep him or sell him this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
