The striker is struggling for goals

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta thinks one of the reasons for Lautaro Martinez’s current lack of goals is the Argentine being distracted by speculation over his future.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, although Inter have made it clear they are not interested in selling.

Martinez was in fine form for the Nerazzurri before the season was paused in March because of the coronavirus pandemic but has managed just one goal since the restart.

Marotta has offered his thoughts on Martinez and warned he needs peace of mind if he’s to return to top form.

“Inter do not want to sell their most important players, we are talking about a 22-year-old boy who is in a period of his career where there are constant rumours that maybe affect him.

“We admired an excellent Lautaro in the first half of the season. Now he must regain the serenity that will allow him to have personal satisfaction and make his contribution to Inter like he did in the first part.”

Rumors of a move to Barcelona have gone quiet recently with the Catalan giants currently focused on the end of their season. Martinez’s €111 million release clause is due to expire this month which may prompt a fresh batch of rumors.
