The boss has explained his changes

Barcelona manager Quique Setien spoke about his decision to switch tactics for Sunday’s La Liga win over Villarrreal.

The 61-year-old changed to a diamond formation and brought Sergi Roberto and Antoine Griezmann back into the starting line-up for the trip to the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Setien’s changes worked well with Barcelona putting in a vastly improved display, and Setien talked about why he had tweaked his set-up after the game.

“The other day, we tried something similar with Riqui Puig and we liked it,” he said.

“[The forwards] linked up extraordinarily well and we endangered their centre-backs and their holding midfielders.

“We were able to make progress on the wings when attracting people inside. It was what we were looking for, endanger them in central areas and have presence and threat.

“Before their equaliser, we scored the goal and had a few clear chances. We go away happy and sure that we had a great game and they enjoyed it.”

Next up for Barcelona is a visit from Espanyol on Wednesday. Barca can confirm their local rivals’ relegation with a draw or a win at the Camp Nou.
