The latest from the Barcelona boss

Quique Setien faced the press on Wednesday to talk all things Barcelona ahead of his team’s next match against Osasuna at the Camp Nou.

The Barca boss was pretty short with some of his answers but did talk about the title race, his future, Lionel Messi and Arturo Vidal.

He was also asked about Arthur and his answer suggested it’s unlikely we will see the Brazilian in a Barca shirt again unless there are no other options.

Here are the main points:

Setien on Osasuna

We’re going to try to keep the highest level of competitive demand and try to win the game. Whatever happens in other games, whether we have a chance or not, our obligation is to try to win this game against a very good side who’ve had an excellent season and have also achieved their aims.

Setien on Luis Suarez saying Barcelona blew La Liga

Obviously that’s his opinion. It’s true that the league isn’t lost yet because anything could happen. That we’ve taken three draws has made the difference and has brought us to this situation. In the end it’s obvious that the team who are ahead have done things better because they’ve won these eight games but we will continue fighting til the end.

Setien on taking responsibIlity for missing out on La Liga

I’m another part of this, but not completely. In the end making this evaluation of trying to find someone who’s at fault, it always falls on the coach. I don’t think I’ve done so badly to have drawn three games. I give more merit to the opposition, to Madrid who have won everything and that is difficult.

Setien on Frenkie de Jong

i’m sure he will [play] he’s done several training sessions with the team, he’s done a good job. His problem is practically forgotten. We’ll see tomorrow if he starts or comes on but he’s available.

Setien on if Real Madrid have been better

I’m not going to evaluate how Madrid are. I think we’ve had moments where we did well, other moments we struggled a bit. I’m not completely satisfied with the consistency we’ve had in certain things, we could have done things better obviously, we could have finished off chances a bit more and been calmer in games, such as the most recent one. We would have been a lot calmer if we’d converted our chances.

Setien on if he sees himself at Barcelona next season

Of course. Naturally I see myself here. It is true that sometimes the results are achieved or not, but behind what you see there is a job and it is what I would like to be valued, if the job is well done or not. I intend to continue next season.

Setien on Messi

He looks good to me. It’s true that maybe there are a few stats that aren’t as high as other years but we all know who Leo Messi is. If he doesn’t contribute with goals it’s with assists. He’s a player at a stratospheric level and anything I can say about him has already been said.

Setien on Vidal

We’ve spoke about Vidal before I think he’s played more than 50 per cent of games, especially since we’ve been here. He seems like a player who transmits a lot of positivity and energy. He does things very well, he’s scored eight goals. He gives us a permanent threat. He’s an important player undoubtedly.

Setien on Arthur

He’s back in the squad. He’s training with us, and he will have a chance to play if necessary.
