Setien to Shift Focus to Champions League and Could Save Barcelona's Season

The prospect of a trophyless season is very much on, but Quique SetiƩn ain't going to go down quietly. The entire focus will be shifting to the Champions League very quickly.

Barcelona have never won a Champions League title without lifting the League title before-hand. That's usually something their arch-rival Real Madrid forte to perform. For Barcelona, Champions League is usually a reflection of the exceptional form they show throughout.

With already knocked out of Copa del Rey, and almost at the verge of surrendering the League title to Real Madrid, Barcelona's only hope for saving this season is in Europe.

SetiƩn Knows that Real Madrid has won the La Liga Title

In my previous post, I have argued the need to rest Messi if hopes of retaining the title fades away. That has come to fruition now. With Real Madrid winning narrowly against Granada, it's now safe to say that the title is all theirs.

Mathematically it's still possible for Barcelona to win the title, but that ain't going to happen in real life. With only two matches left to play, that means Barcelona has to win both of their matches and Real have to lose both of theirs.

Barcelona should Aim for Champions League Now

With Real winning the League, we have only one thing left to fight for - The Champions League. We have the second leg of Napoli tie coming up on the 8th of August. If we can make through that tie, then we most probably have the high flying Bayern Munich waiting.

For all this, the squad needs to be in top shape. Most of them have been exhausted completely. They all need rest and SetiƩn with the League title already lost could give them enough rest before August rush kicks in!
