Dembélé could be an alternative

Manchester United are speaking with Ousmane Dembélé’s camp, as they might try to sign the 23-year-old if their attempt to sign Jadon Sancho falls through, something that is looking increasingly likely. That’s the story coming from ESPN today as the Frenchman is nearing match fitness after a long injury layoff.

Recently, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said the club “plan on having Sancho in our team this season,” implying United’s pursuit of the young star had failed, at least for this transfer window.

It is understood United will continue to try to get Sancho, but the report tells us that United are having discussions with Dembélé’s agents already just in case. These are preliminary, informal talks, but still, there is contact between the parties.

Barcelona are understood to be willing to sell the winger after his spell in Catalonia has been frustrated by several serious injuries.

The Catalans are set to take on Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. Dembélé could feature if the manager thinks he’s ready after a long injury layoff.
