Did Bayern’s chairman disrespect Ter Stegen?
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called Neuer “world class,” but said Ter Stegen was still on the way
Catalan media is annoyed at Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the Chairman of Bayern Munich’s Executive board, for a perceived slight against Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
The comments came ahead of a quarterfinal clash between Barcelona and Bayern in the UEFA Champions League.
In Germany, a debate among national team fans rages on about whether Ter Stegen should take over for Manuel Neuer, who won the FIFA World Cup for Die Mannschaft. Neuer was the world’s #1 in those days, but some say the younger Ter Stegen has surpassed him.
That’s not a sentiment Rummenigge agrees with.
“The national team can consider itself lucky to have these two goalkeepers. Both are top goalkeepers,” he ceded.
But...
“Manuel Neuer is world-class, Ter Stegen is on his way to world-class,” he went on to say.
Ter Stegen is considered by many to be one of the world’s top keepers. This comment seemed dismissive, at least to the media in Barcelona.
What is your opinion? Did Rummenigge disrespect Ter Stegen?
