The striker looks set to miss the start of the season

Barcelona confirmed on Sunday that Martin Braithwaite has been ruled out of action after picking up an injury in training.

The striker suffered a quadriceps injury after Saturday’s win over Elche in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Camp Nou.

“The first team player Martin Braithwaite has a left quadriceps anterior rectus injury and the evolution of the problem will condition his availability.

“The tests carried out this Sunday have shown up the injury, which occurred in post-match training on Saturday.”

Braithwaite wasn’t used in the game but was one of several players to take part in a practice match after the final whistle on the Camp Nou pitch.

It’s not been confirmed how long Braithwaite will be out for but it looks like he will miss the start of the season. Barcelona begin their campaign on Sunday against Villarreal.

Braithwaite looks to have a fight on his hands for minutes in 2020-21 given the competition for places in attack. He did feature in the friendlies against Nastic and Girona but didn’t make it off the bench against Elche.
