How will Barcelona line up against Ferencvaros?

The Hungarian champions are first up at the Camp Nou

Barcelona begin their 2020-21 Champions League campaign on Tuesday against Ferencvaros in a match they will be expected to win pretty comfortably.

Ronald Koeman lifted the European Cup twice as a player but must now try to achieve Champions League success as a manager.

Europe’s top competition has provided plenty of heartache for Barca in the past couple of seasons, let’s hope for something different this time around.

Koeman made changes at the weekend against Getafe and more are expected on Tuesday, particularly with El Clasico up next at the weekend.

Let’s see who might start:

Defence

There are unlikely to be too many changes in defence, although Koeman does have a few options to play with.

Sergino Dest has featured at left-back since Jordi Alba hobbled off against Sevilla and could continue, although Junior Firpo is now back fit and will be hoping for a first start.

If Koeman does go with Junior then it’s possible Dest could replace Sergi Roberto on the opposite flank.

The rest of the defence looks like staying the same unless Koeman fancies giving Ronald Araujo another start and handing Gerard Pique a rest.

Midfield

There could well be changes in midfield with Miralem Pjanic being tipped to make his first start for Barcelona since his move from Juventus.

The 30-year-old has only managed 28 minutes so far but has plenty of Champions League experience and could get the nod.

The big question then is who Koeman drops to the bench out of Sergio Busquets or Frenkie de Jong?

Attack

Koeman has plenty of big decisions to make in attack. Philippe Coutinho and Ansu Fati were rested last time out but could come straight back into the starting XI.

Antoine Griezmann’s place must be in jeopardy after a disappointing start to the season, while it might be a good idea to give Lionel Messi a rest too.

Pedri will be hoping to keep his place after an impressive full debut against Getafe, and Ousmane Dembele and Francisco Trincao are also in contention.

Possible XI: Neto; Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Dest; Pjanic, Busquets; Trincao, Coutinho, Fati, Messi.
