The Netherlands international wants to move

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has explained why he wants to bring Memphis Depay to the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants have reportedly agreed personal terms with the forward but need to sell a player before they can bring in the Lyon captain.

Time is rapidly running out in the transfer market, with the window set to shut tonight, but Koeman says he knows Memphis wants to make the switch.

”We want him to come to Barcelona, and he wants to come too. But due to the financial situation at the club, especially due to the control of the federation, it is clear that one player must leave before another can come.”

“He’s a great player. He can play as a striker, but he also does a great job as a left-winger, he’s got strength, holds the ball well, wins his duels and has a high performance. If you have worked well with a player and you click with him you think it can work here too.”

Lyon sporting director Juninho said on Sunday night that “it’s possible” Memphis will leave the club for Barca, but it seems any deal is dependent on the Catalan giants offloading Ousmane Dembele or Jean-Clair Todibo first.
