Why hasn’t Ter Stegen been called up by Germany?
The goalkeeper is fit after knee surgery
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is one of the few Barcelona players not on international duty for the next couple of weeks.
The German was not called up by manager Joachim Low despite returning to fitness just before the squads were announced for the last round of internationals in 2020.
Ter Stegen’s omission is something of a surprise but there was a good reason why it was thought better to keep the goalkeeper at his club, according to Bild.
The German has only just returned to fitness and, although he played a starring role against Dynamo Kiev, both the goalkeeper and Low “didn’t want to rush anything.”
Indeed it was thought to be a much better idea for Ter Stegen to stay in Barcelona where he can train more intensively over the next fortnight than with the Germany team.

Ter Stegen missed Barca’s first eight games of the season after undergoing knee surgery but has returned against Kiev and Real Betis in top form.
The decision not to call up Ter Stegen will surely benefit both the goalkeeper and Barca ahead of a hectic end to the year.
