Sergi Roberto back in training ahead of Copa del Rey clash
The versatile star has been out since November
Sergi Roberto was back in full Barcelona training on Monday as the team began preparations for their Copa del Rey clash at Rayo Vallecano.
The 28-year-old has been out of action since suffering a thigh injury in November in the defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
It now seems that Roberto could make his return this week, either in Wednesday’s game against Rayo or at the weekend against Athletic in La Liga.
Roberto’s return will certainly offer Ronald Koeman more options, particularly as Sergino Dest has also struggled with injury recently.
The American has also admitted he’s been lacking confidence too after a dip in form following his move from Ajax. He was fit enough to make the squad for Elche but didn’t feature.
Oscar Mingueza has filled in well at right-back recently but is likely to now make way as Roberto and Dest return. The youngster will still be a useful back-up option in central defense with Gerard Pique still not due back for a little while.
