Gerard Piqué targeting a return against PSG in the Champions League
The veteran Barcelona defender wants to be available for the big test
Gerard Piqué is working on being available much sooner than expected in order to help FC Barcelona against Paris Saint-Germain. The veteran defender has been out since suffering a knee injury against Atlético Madrid in November. Initial reports suggested he would be back in April at the earliest, but there is talk now that he will actually be available much sooner.
He turned down suggestions he should have surgery to repair the damage and has been working on a recovery with team doctors. At this point he is already up and running.
It’s been reported that Piqué’s goal is to be available for Ronald Koeman to use in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 meeting at Camp Nou, which will be held on February 16th.
If not, he could still be available for the return leg, which is on the 10th of March at the Parc des Princes.
Piqué could have opted for the first surgery in his career at age 34 but ultimately opted against it to be able to play in the decisive moments down the stretch this season. We will see if his choice pays off.
