Todibo opens up on Barcelona struggles
The defender joined Nice on loan in January
Jean-Clair Todibo has opened up on his struggles at Barcelona following his latest loan move to French side Nice.
The defender is now embarking on his third loan spell following previous moves to Bundesliga side Schalke and Portuguese outfit Benfica.
Todibo, who signed for Barcelona from Toulouse two years ago, says he does not regret his move to the Catalan giants and explained why he struggled for game time at the Camp Nou.
“No, not at all. FC Barcelona continues to be a very great experience. I learned a lot from Gerard Piqué, Samuel Umtiti, Clément Lenglet. It did me good. I discovered a very, very high level,” he said.
“I did not succeed because there were very, very big players in front of me. I also had a coach, Ernesto Valverde , who was under pressure, with a crowd that put a lot of pressure, so it was normal for him to put Gerard Piqué instead of an inexperienced 19-year-old.”
Todibo made his debut for Nice on Wednesday in a 2-1 defeat to Monaco. The defender’s loan deal does include a purchase option set at €8.5 million, plus €7m in variables.
