The Frenchman has finally found his rhythm

Antoine Griezmann has been a star for Barcelona in 2021. While showing flashes of his ability last year, during his first season at the Camp Nou, Griezmann never truly found the form that made him one of the world’s top forwards.

The FIFA World Cup winner found it hard to fit in alongside Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi last season, with persistent rumors that he may leave just one season since joining from Atlético Madrid.

Since the turn of the year, he has scored 7 goals and given 6 assists, for 13 goal contributions. He was instrumental in Barcelona’s sensational 5-3 victory over Granada in the Copa del Rey, first scoring a goal then assisting Jordi Alba to take the game into extra time, then scoring once and giving another assist to Alba to achieve the victory (Frenkie de Jong scored the other goal).

Griezmann had a frustrating first season but it seems the second could be much more successful. His understanding with Lionel Messi, which was frequently questioned in the past, was one of the highlights in that match against Granada.

For the first goal, the Frenchman made a run to the far post on the left, with Messi finding him with an expert pass from the right. And a few minutes later. Griezmann switched the play from the left to the right, finding Messi. The Argentine dribbled as Griezmann continued his foray forward, finding the Frenchman with a similar pass. This time Griezmann cushioned it back to Alba, who headed in the equalizer.

His association with key players in the attack such as Alba or his countryman, Ousmane Dembélé, also seems to be improving.

A fit and firing Griezmann is instrumental if Barcelona want to win any trophies this season. The Catalans are feeling the loss of productivity that left alongside Suárez, who was and continues to be a source of goals and assists for his club. Griezmann is now Barcelona’s second main attacker behind Messi, and they rely on him more than ever.
