Papu Gomez warns Sevilla: Messi is ‘capable of anything’

Papu Gomez knows all about Lionel Messi and admits he’s hoping the Barcelona captain has an off day when the teams meet for the third time already in 2021 on Wednesday in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.
Messi scored and picked up an assist in the weekend win over Sevilla in La Liga, and Gomez says his team are going to have to be very careful at the Camp Nou.
“When he turns it on, he is capable of anything. We are going to have to be very attentive to him and the other players, hopefully it’s not Leo’s day.
“Being one step away from a final is to the credit of the boys, who reached the quarter-finals. I participated in the quarter-finals and now in the semifinal.
“We have one more step left, we know the difficulties we have because it is not easy to get a good result from the Camp Nou. We are going with a good advantage but I think we will have to do things better than we did at home to get through.”

Sevilla are actually Messi’s favorite La Liga team to score against. His strike at the weekend was his 30th in 29 league meetings with the Andalusian side.
Barca will hope Messi can add to that tally and will need goals to go through. Sevilla’s 2-0 lead gives them a big advantage, but Barca will be full of belief after their weekend win.
