The Frenchman has reportedly been dealing with a painful groin problem

Ousmane Dembélé is enjoying the most consistent season of his Barcelona career and has finally been able to avoid long periods away from the pitch due to injury, but that doesn’t mean the Frenchman is completely healthy.

According to Diario SPORT, Dembélé has been dealing with a painful groin injury, an inflammation in his pubis that’s caused him to finish several matches in pain. The club is said to be concerned about the potential of the problem getting worse, but Dembélé wants to keep playing until the end of the season and will manage his pain with a specific treatment plan, which he has followed with both Barça’s staff and his own trainer.

Plenty of players, including the likes of Cesc Fàbregas and Lionel Messi in their Barcelona days have played with the same problem. It’s the type of injury that isn’t serious enough to cause players to miss time — Fàbregas says he played hurt for eight months — but is always a source of pain and anxiety, however with good treatment and time to rest the issue is unlikely to get worse.

The problem for Dembélé is that he won’t have the summer to rest if he’s called up by France for the European Championships, and given his club form it’s hard to see him not making the national team squad. Ousmane’s participation in the Euros is of concern for Barça in the long run, but surgery is ruled out for now and Dembélé will be able to make it through the rest of the season.
