Gil Manzano will take charge instead

Saturday’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium will no longer be officiated by Mateo Lahoz but will have Gil Manzano in charge instead.

The RFEF confirmed on Friday morning that Lahoz has suffered a muscle injury and is not fit to referee the game between the two fierce rivals.

Manzano will take charge instead and will referee a Barcelona match for the first time since the Spanish Super Cup final back in January against Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona lost that game 3-2 and saw Lionel Messi sent off the first time in his career with the Catalan giants after a clash with Asier Villalibre. Manzano also sent off Neymar and Luis Suarez during their time at Barcelona.

In fact Manzano also showed Clement Lenglet a red card on his first La Liga start for Barcelona after a tangle with Pere Pons. The midfielder said after the game he thought he had fouled the Frenchman first.

The match official was also in the spotlight earlier this season in Real Madrid’s 4-1 defeat to Valencia at Mestalla, giving the hosts three penalties in a crazy game.
