An interesting summer awaits at the Camp Nou

Barcelona have reportedly decided that four of the club’s “heavyweights” are no longer untouchable and could even depart at the end of the season.

Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, and Antoine Griezman make up the quartet who are due to talk with the club over the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

It seems the club have decided that the team’s failure in the title race is not solely down to Ronald Koeman and there are players “who cannot continue at Barça or, at least, cannot continue with the status of untouchables.”

The club’s plan seems to be to sit down with the players and analyze their contributions over the campaign. The players will then be asked to either lower their salary or seek an exit.

Roberto has a contract until 2022, Busquets is signed on until 2023, and Pique’s deal does not expire until 2024. Griezmann’s contract also expires in 2024 and he’s a slightly different case, as he’s only been at the club for two seasons, but he has been deemed “neither untouchable nor essential.”

The report also adds that Jordi Alba, who is another player contracted until 2024, was previously under scrutiny but is not on the list because “he has performed at a good level.”

Barcelona were already keen to offload players such as Samuel Umitit, Junior Firpo and Philippe Coutinho but may have a few more to add to the list ahead of what should be another intriguing summer at the Camp Nou.
