Pique talks Barcelona’s title hopes after Valencia win
The defender is looking forward to facing Atletico
Gerard Pique discussed Barcelona’s title hopes after Sunday’s win over Valencia and thinks there’s still a long way to go in the race to be crowned champions.
Next weekend sees Barcelona take on Atletico, while Real Madrid face Sevilla in what promises to be another dramatic weekend in La Liga.
Pique says his team are focused on beating Atletico but that even if they do overcome the Rojiblancos there will still be work to do.
“This means we are still in the fight. The objective at the start of the season was that in the final games of the season we’d be in the battle to win the league and we are still there,” he said.
“The focus now is on Atletico. We have to win. It’s in our hands. We have to win Saturday and that will take us above them and then wait for Madrid-Sevilla. That’s all we can do.
“From what we’ve seen this season you can’t be sure whoever comes out of next weekend's round of fixtures best will be champions. Every game at home is difficult without supporters. Even if we come out next weekend as leaders I still wouldn’t say it’s all over.”
Barca’s final three games of the season are against Levante, Celta Vigo and Eibar, while Real Madrid play Granada, Athletic and Villarreal. Atletico Madrid finish up against Real Sociedad, Osasuna, and Real Valladolid.
