Everton want Lenglet to replace Yerry Mina - report
New boss Rafa Benitez is eyeing the Frenchman
Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has reportedly emerged as a target for Premier League side Everton following the arrival of Rafa Benitez as manager.
According to Sport, Benitez is hoping to reinforce the backline this summer and wants the France international to “assume the role of leader of the defense.”
Apparently Benitez has already decided that Yerry Mina is not up to the job and wants someone with more experience than Ben Godfrey or Mason Holgate.
Lenglet endured a pretty torrid season last time out for Barcelona and found it tough going in his only appearance at Euro 2020 with France against Switzerland.
The center-back did, however, sign a contract extension at Barcelona in October. His deal now runs until 2026 and has a buy-out clause that stands at €300 million.
Lenglet also insisted earlier this summer he was going nowhere. He told Eurosport, “I do not see myself leaving. I re-signed a new contract last season. I will be at Barça next season.”
Yet Barca’s financial problems are well-known which suggests that the Catalan giants would be more than willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old.
