The president was at pre-season training on Monday

Barcelona president Joan Laporta made a visit to the team’s first pre-season training session on Monday as the club started preparations for the new La Liga campaign.

The 59-year-old was on hand to greet the players and also offered some motivational words ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Here’s what he told the Barca dressing room:

“We would like you to be professionals, with a winning mentality and with team spirit. Barça has to compete to win, but obviously always in a sporting way. I wish you all the best for the season.”

It’s also been reported that Laporta had a request to the players about Ronald Koeman. He added, “And pay attention to this man, who is the one in command.”

Koeman’s future as Barcelona boss was uncertain at the end of last season but Laporta has confirmed he will remain in charge for a second year.

It’s been reported today that Laporta is likely to offer Koeman a new contract but will wait until the start of October to make an approach. The new deal is expected to be for two years but will include a get out clause that allows both parties to “terminate the contract with relative ease.”
