The German is still recovering from a knee injury

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is aiming to return to action for Barcelona in mid-September but is expected to miss the Catalan giants’ first three games of the new campaign.

The German goalkeeper underwent a knee procedure at the end of last season which saw him ruled out of Euro 2020.

Ter Stegen is still a little way off full fitness but is hoping to only miss the first three games of the season, against Real Sociedad, Athletic and Getafe, according to AS.

The 29-year-old is aiming to be ready to make his return in time for the trip to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to face Sevilla on September 12.

Ter Stegen’s injury means Neto could start the season once again in goal for Barcelona, although speculation persists the Brazilian could leave this summer.

Inaki Pena is also a contender to replace Ter Stegen, particularly if Neto does depart. Yet there have been rumors Barca aren’t completely convinced by Pena and could bring in another goalkeeper if Neto does go.
