The new Barcelona man was happy to get a message from an old legend

Emerson Royal has revealed he received a message from the legendary Dani Alves, who preceded him in the Brazilian national team and in FC Barcelona.

Emerson spoke about Alves, who is currently leading the Brazilian Olympic to a gold medal face-off against Spain, while taking questions following his official unveiling as a Barcelona player.

Club president Joan Laporta mentioned Alves and another Brazilian right-back who made history with the Catalans, Juliano Belletti.

Emerson replied: “They are players who made history, especially Alves, whom I have as an idol. He is the player with the most titles in the history of football. I spoke with him, he told me to come here and that things will work out naturally.“

A multiple time Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Club World Cup winner with FC Barcelona, Alves has won titles wherever he has gone and also won trophies at international level with Brazil. He is considered one of the best fullbacks ever.

Belletti is now retired but is remembered for his stints at Barcelona and Chelsea, in addition to winning the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Brazil. His biggest moment in a blaugrana shirt was certainly in 2006, when he scored the winning in the Champions League final against Arsenal after coming on as a substitute.

Emerson went on to say that playing for Barcelona was “a dream, because it represents a dream for many people, for my family, for my friends, for players who failed to make it.”
