We’ll hear from the GOAT on Sunday

Lionel Messi will speak publicly for the first time since Barcelona stunned the world by announcing his departure from the club on Sunday at the Camp Nou

The Catalans have confirmed that Messi will speak at a press conference which will take place at 12pm CET/6am ET and where we should hear his side of the story.

News of Messi’s departure from Barcelona has shocked supporters and the whole football world as it had been expected he would continue for another two seasons.

President Joan Laporta has spent the last few months saying “everything was on track” with Messi’s renewal but then had to try and explain the situation at a news conference on Friday.

The president said Messi had wanted to stay but that the club couldn’t agree a deal because of La Liga’s salary cap. Laporta also made it clear just how dire Barca’s financial situation is.

There’s been no word from Messi yet but reports have said he’s shocked and upset by Barca’s announcement which came just 10 days before the start of the new La Liga season.

The shock and dismay have been evident in the many messages to Messi from his teammates, past and present, that have flooded social media over the last few days.

Messi is currently being linked now with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, although there are conflicting reports flying about regarding how close a deal is to being done.

Tomorrow’s presser may help shed some light on just what’s been going on at Barcelona over the last few days.
