Oscar Mingueza was back in Barcelona training on Wednesday as the young defender closes in on a return to action after injury.

The 22-year-old is on the recovery trail after picking up a hamstring injury while on Olympic duty with the Spain team in Tokyo.

Barcelona offered an update on Mingueza’s current progress:

“The senior team were back out on the training field this Wednesday morning after taking a break on Tuesday, where the big news was the presence of Óscar Mingueza, who was able to join in part of the session with the rest of the squad.

“The defender picked up an injury while playing at the Olympics in Tokyo, but was able to join his colleagues for today’s workout at the Ciutat Esportiva as the team continues to prepare for the first road trip of the 2021/22 season, to visit Athletic Club in Bilbao.”

Mingueza enjoyed a great campaign last time out, forcing his way into the first team and becoming a regular under Ronald Koeman. The youngster may find it tougher this time around, however, particularly with Eric Garcia having returned from Manchester City.
