The Dutchman’s contract expires in 2022

Barcelona are reportedly willing to renew Ronald Koeman if the Dutchman meets three key conditions during his second season in charge at the Camp Nou.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants have already started thinking about extending Koeman’s deal which expires in 2022.

However, in order to stay on at the Camp Nou the Dutch coach will have to meet “a series of conditions” which make for pretty interesting reading.

The report reckons Koeman must win titles (particularly La Liga and the Champions League), play in an attractive style using a 4-3-3, and utilise the club’s youngsters.

Interestingly, Riqui Puig’s name is mentioned as a player Barca want to see featuring in the coming season as well as Samuel Umtiti.

Puig has not managed a single minute Koeman so far in 2021-22 and there have been reports that the Dutchman advised the midfielder once again to go out on loan.

Umtiti is another player who is still waiting to feature. It seems Barca want him to play so he can either be an option at center-back or so potential suitors can see him in action.

Koeman’s Barca have had a mixed start to the season. A promising 4-2 win over Real Sociedad was followed by a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Athletic and an uninspiring win over Getafe.

The team’s next game was scheduled to be a trip to Sevilla after the international break, but La Liga has asked for the game to be postponed, which means Barca’s next fixture could the the visit of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
