Laporta says Sergi Roberto’s new contract ‘is done’
Just a signature is missing
Joan Laporta says that Sergi Roberto’s contract extension at Barcelona is all agreed and is just waiting for a signature from the 29-year-old to make it all official.
Roberto is into the final year of his current deal but is expected to renew for another two seasons. The 29-year-old is also set to join fellow captains Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets in taking a salary reduction.
Here’s what Laporta had to say about Roberto during Luuk de Jong’s presentation today.
“With Sergi Roberto it’s all coming along well, it’s agreed, and just needs to be signed. In principle it’s done. They just have to sign the final documents. The same as the other captains, Sergi has made a gesture to support the club.
“The captains have made this gesture at a very difficult moment for the club. For me, they are gestures that will never be forgotten. They were already, but they are Barca heroes even more so now.”

Roberto has started the season in midfield for Barcelona, scoring twice and picking up an assist in his first three games, but may now become an option at right-back once again following Emerson Royal’s departure.
