Barcelona loanee Dest hit by ‘serious’ injury setback

The full-back is out for an ‘extended period’

Barcelona loanee Sergino Dest has been hit by a major injury setback after being ruled out for an “extended period” of time.

Dest is currently enjoyed a good season with PSV but suffered a knee problem in training that will keep him out of action for a while.

He wrote on Instagram: “After a wonderful season with PSV, I’ll not be able to finish the season. Thanks for your support.”

PSV added a bit more detail in a post on the club’s website: “Sergiño Dest suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury during Saturday’s training session. How long the winger will be sidelined is still being investigated. That it will be an extended period is almost certain.”

Dest will obviously miss the end of the season, but there are fears he could miss this summer’s Copa America with the USMNT too.

The American is expected to leave Barcelona permanently in the summer, with PSV believed to be keen to activate a purchase option in his deal. It remains to be seen if his injury will affect those plans.
