Frimpong speaks out after being linked with Barca move
‘Anyone can say anything’
Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong has played down talk of a move to Barcelona when quizzed about the current speculation.
Diario Sport reported this week that Barcelona have made an opening bid for Frimpong, as new boss Hansi Flick is keen on the defender.
Frimpong has been asked if he’s read the report and offered up the following response to ESPN. “Exactly, just like you said: rumors. I don’t read rumors. Rumors are just rumors, anyone can say anything.”
The defender had a brilliant season as part of Xabi Alonso’s title-winning side at Bayern Leverkusen, contributing 14 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
His performances have thrust him into the spotlight, with Liverpool and Manchester United also linked with the Dutchman. Frimpong is thought to have a release clause in his contract set at around €40m.
The defender is currently with the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 and is preparing for an opening group game against Poland on Sunday afternoon in Hamburg.
