Lewandowski injury update issued after striker limps off
Striker forced off in first half
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was forced off injured in the first half of Poland’s friendly against Turkey on Monday ahead of Euro 2024.
The 35-year-old went off with what appeared to be a thigh injury in what was a worrying sight for Poland fans ahead of the tournament.
Poland will now be sweating on their top scorer’s fitness ahead of the start of the competition, although coach MichaÅ‚ Probierz seemed confident he will be OK.
“He has a minor injury, there should be no problems for him to reach the Euro,” he told reporters.
Lewandowski was making his 150th appearance for the national team in a game which Poland went on to win 2-1.
Poland now head to Germany for an opening group game against the Netherlands, but there will be no reunion for Lewandowski with Frenkie de Jong as he’s been ruled out of Euro 2024 through injury.
