Lewandowski speaks out after Poland knocked out of Euro 2024

Poland v Austria: Group D - UEFA EURO 2024

The team have been eliminated after just two games

Robert Lewandowski has admitted his Poland team are down after being the first team to be knocked out of Euro 2024.

Poland’s defeat to Austria was followed by a draw between France and Netherlands, meaning Poland can’t make it out of the group.

Lewandowski missed his team’s first game and only came off the bench against Austria after picking up an injury ahead of the tournament.

The Barcelona striker says his team-mates will try to finish on a high when they play France in their final game.

“We are depressed by this result but we still have one more game in our group and we need to put our best foot forward and try to win three points,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Poland boss Michal Probierz spoke about the decision to leave Lewandowski out of the starting XI for the game.

“We knew that this would be a highly intensive match, and we decided with the medical team, and Lewandowski himself, that he would not be starting from the first minutes,” he said.

Poland take on France on Tuesday in Germany, and the players will then head off for a break ahead of the new 2024-25 season.
