Athletic send out strong message on Williams amid Barca talk
The forward is in demand
Athletic Club have sent out a message on Nico Williams’ future after the young forward impressed again at Euro 2024 on Sunday.
The forward scored in an impressive performance against Georgia as Spain booked their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Williams is being heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and is said to be the club’s top target for the summer transfer window.
However, Athletic were quick to point out a gesture he made after the match, posting on X a video of Williams handing his Spain shirt to an Athletic fan after the game.
Nico makes a point of ensuring his jersey goes to a supporter in the crowd wearing an Athletic shirt and the club added the caption: “Nico Williams is well aware he belongs.”

Williams signed a contract extension with the club in December that runs until 2027 but that has done little to quell speculation over his future.
Barcelona continue to be linked with a move, despite the club’s financial problems, but he may well gain more admirers if he continues to impress in Germany at Euro 2024.
