He’s back!

Barcelona have confirmed that Thiago Alcantara has joined the coaching staff at the club following his retirement and will work under new boss Hansi Flick.

Thiago has already been spotted at the training ground after the players returned for pre-season amid speculation he was to re-join the club.

Barca have now offered a bit more detail on Thiago’s role and how long he’s set to stay with the Catalans.

Here’s the club’s statement:

“Having recently called time on his playing career at the age of 33, Thiago Alcántara is set to spend the coming weeks as part of Hansi Flick’s staff in order to train as a coach.

“The former player is expected to remain with the men’s football first team squad for the entire summer, and therefore, will be on the US tour.

Thiago is expected to work closely with the players and provide a vital link between the dressing room and Flick. The former midfielder worked with the new Barca manager previously at Bayern after moving to Germany from the Camp Nou.
