Yamal chooses number for next season
The teenager will get a shirt upgrade for 2024/25
Following his fantastic debut season at club level and becoming an European Champion with his country last weekend, Lamine Yamal is the talk of the football world and will undoubtedly be the main attaction of Barcelona’s 2024/25 season. And everyone watching the 17-year-old in the new campaign will see him with a new number.
Yamal has chosen to wear number 19 next season, the same he used for Spain in his title-winning run at Euro 2024. Barca have made it all official today.

There was a ton of speculation at the end of last season that Yamal would inherit the iconic number 10 that belonged to Lionel Messi for over a decade, but Ansu Fati is still currently in possession of the shirt and Yamal himself has played down speculation that he would be taking number 10, saying he would leave such a decision to the club.
But Lamine has instead taken matters into his own hands and taken the vacant number 19, which will stop any silly speculation and drama and not add any unnecessary pressure to what will already be a season full of expectation for a kid just turned 17 years old.
So if you were waiting to buy a Lamine Yamal shirt, now you know his number. And it’s not 10, which is probably the right choice.
