The Uruguay boss has the latest

Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa offered a quick update on Ronald Araujo’s injury after the Barcelona defender was forced off at the Copa America against Brazil.

The center-back is now set to undergo further tests and Barcelona will be hoping it’s not a serious problem that will see him miss the start of the season.

“I think Ronald Araujo’s injury is a muscular one, which will be confirmed tomorrow when the tests are done,” Bielsa told reporters after the win.

The Uruguay boss also went on to highlight the busy fixture schedule as one major reason why players are picking up so many injuries.

“It’s an option that cannot be ignored. It’s important to note that when the full season ends, the one that started in August and ended in June in Europe, players accumulate between 40 and 50 games. Then comes the challenge of playing twice a week,” he added.

“All elite players in Europe play twice a week. It’s one thing to do it regularly for nine months and another to repeat it in the 10th and 11th month.”

Barcelona have also lost Pedri to injury this summer, while there are fears Frenkie de Jong could also miss the start of the season due to his ankle problem. Fermin Lopez is another player who may start late due to his involvement at the Paris Olympics.
